In 1889 to be exact, in Naples, Italy, Queen Margherita was given a special bread baked with fresh mozzarella cheese, tomatoes and fresh Basil (to represent the colors of the Italian flag: Red, white, and green). She liked it enough for it to be named in her honor “Margherita Pizza” This is how pizza came to be.
